Violinist Kako Miura to Perform at The University of Scranton on April 9
Violinist Kako Miura will perform music by Mozart, Bach, Brahms, Gershwin and de Sarasate at a concert on Saturday, April 9, at 7:30 p.m. in the Houlihan McLean Center at The University of Scranton. Admission is free and the performance is open to the public.
Acclaimed violinist Kako Miura will be joined by her piano accompanist Miles Fellenberg for a concert presented by Performance Music at The University of Scranton on Saturday, April 9, at 7:30 p.m. in the University’s Houlihan McLean Center. The concert is free of charge and open to the public. Doors open at 6:40 p.m. and seating is on a first-come, first-seated basis. The program for the evening’s performance will include music by Mozart, Bach, Brahms, Gershwin and de Sarasate.
Miura will also offer a free masterclass for string players that afternoon at 4 p.m. Interested string players from high school age through adult can make a reservation to participate by emailing music@scranton.edu.
Miura, a 20-year-old student of Masao Kawasaki at The Juilliard School, is the recipient of a number of prestigious awards in both Australia and the United States. She has had both solo and chamber music appearances at such distinguished venues as Alice Tully Hall of Lincoln Center, Carnegie Hall’s Weill Recital Hall, the Sydney Opera House, and the Aspen Music Festival. A native of Tokyo, Japan, Miura grew up in many different parts of the world. In Australia she was awarded her Associate of Music at age 12, and Licentiate of Music at age 13, both with distinction, which is the highest mark presented by the Australian Music Examinations Board, and was then accepted to Juilliard to continue her studies.
Miura is passionate about giving back to the community, and in her free time regularly plays for patients and their families in hospitals across New York City as part of the “Music and Medicine” series. She currently plays a Jean-Baptiste Vuillaume violin and François Tourte bow, generously on loan from the Nippon Violin Company.
Miura will be joined on piano by Miles Fellenberg, a staff pianist at The Juilliard School and The Aspen Music Festival. Fellenberg has performed throughout the world, including at Alice Tully Hall, Carnegie Hall, Museum of Modern Art, Cleveland Museum of Art, and many others.
