The University Welcomes Class of 2019

The University of Scranton will welcome nearly 1,300 students this weekend, including 924 members of its undergraduate Class of 2019, nearly 300 graduate students and more than 80 transfer students.

The University’s undergraduate Class of 2019 was selected from more than 10,000 applicants. The class has an average SAT score of 1,127. Incoming students represent a total of 439 high schools, 14 states and eight foreign countries, including China, France, India, Ireland, Saudi Arabia, Senegal and Vietnam. Approximately 21 percent of the class is from Northeast Pennsylvania. The most common majors chosen by members of the incoming class are biology, accounting, nursing and exercise science.

The Class of 2019 also includes 88 legacy children or grandchildren of University of Scranton alumni, including 15 legacy students of alumni couples.

This weekend’s Fall Welcome will include a New Student Convocation, a class photo, residence hall and commuter meetings and an alumni legacy reception. Members of the incoming class will also help area children and their families prepare for the upcoming school year by volunteering at the Back to School Bonanza on Sunday, Aug. 23, from 2 to 4 p.m. on Lackawanna Courthouse Square.

In addition to the University’s undergraduate Class of 2019, the University will also welcome this weekend more than 80 transfer students and nearly 300 new graduate students, both on-campus and online. Incoming graduate students represent several states and foreign countries, including Ecuador, Cameroon, Thailand and India.

Classes begin on Monday, Aug. 24.
