The Scranton Brass Orchestra, presented by the University and under the direction of Mark Gould and Cheryl Y. Boga, is comprised of 28 professional brass and percussion players from the region. Boga serves as the director of performance music at the University, a position she has held for more than 30 years. Gould was principal trumpet of the Metropolitan Opera Orchestra for more than 30 years and has also been on the faculty of The Juilliard School since 1982. Additionally, he joined the faculty of the Manhattan School of Music in September 2004, and currently chairs the brass department there. He is also the director of The New York Trumpet Ensemble. In addition, two acclaimed young trumpeters from our region who are recent graduates of The Juilliard School serve as trumpet section leaders with the group: Jonathan Heim, a native of Easton, Pa., and Joseph Boga, a native of Chinchilla, Pa.
Gould and Joseph Boga will also be among a number of internationally acclaimed artist/teachers participating in the fourth annual Scranton Brass Seminar, which will be held at the University from Monday, June 16, through Friday, June 20. The seminar is an intensive, one-week summer program for intermediate to advanced high school, college and adult brass players and teachers.
