Seasoned Theatre Director to Speak at Schemel Forum Luncheon
Theatre and the performing arts will be the focus of the latest Schemel Forum event at The University of Scranton. Rosey Hay, artistic director of REV Theatre Company, Philadelphia, will be the featured speaker at a noon luncheon lecture on Thursday, June 21, in the fifth-floor Heritage Room of the Weinberg Memorial Library.
An accomplished director, Hay directed and co-created the REV Theatre Company’s production of “A Midsummer Night’s Dream,” which the company will perform for the inaugural Scranton Shakespeare Festival. REV’s version of the play is an urban take on the Shakespearean classic, featuring athletic and dynamic staging, vibrant and colorful design elements, and several musical numbers choreographed from a variety of sources, including Broadway and Hollywood musicals of the 30s and 40s.
During the luncheon, a preview segment of “A Midsummer Night’s Dream” will be performed. REV has previously performed this play in New York City, Philadelphia and throughout Connecticut. The Scranton performances of “A Midsummer Night’s Dream” will take place at 6 p.m. at June 30 and July 1 at Nay Aug Park. The performances are free of charge.
In addition the REV Theatre Company, Hay has worked with a number of productions, including the Off Broadway U.S. premiere of Dennis Potter’s “Brimstone and Treacle.” She has taught and directed at several conservatory training programs in England and the U.S. and is a resident instructor of Shakespeare at the Philadelphia Shakespeare Theatre.The Schemel Forum’s luncheon lecture is presented free of charge, however, seating is limited and reservations are required to attend.
