Gift to The University of Scranton Supports Scholarship and Lecture
The Charles J. Volpe, Sr. ’61 Memorial Scholarship honors the memory of Charles J. Volpe, a well-respected Scranton businessman, insurance entrepreneur and servant leader. Aside from his business career, Volpe was an active political leader who served his constituents with integrity and dedication. In addition to local and county positions, he was elected and served as a member of the Pennsylvania State House of Representatives.
The Volpe Scholarship provides assistance for a student who is majoring in history, political science or international studies; has achieved academic excellence; and aspires to pursue a career in public service.
Charles J. Volpe, Jr., Esq. will also support The Charles J. Volpe, Sr. ’61 Memorial Lecture Series, a program developed for inviting outstanding public servants to campus to explore public service issues.
“The Volpe family’s commitment to this University is a testament to their husband’s legacy and their belief in Catholic and Jesuit education at Scranton,” said Patrick F. Leahy, Ed.D., executive vice president at The University of Scranton. “The entire University community benefits from the scholarship their family has established, since it supports our Jesuit mission to educate ‘men and women for others.’”
