PBC News

  • The Kania SOM Ignatian Consulting Club placed in the top eight at the Georgetown Hilltop Business Strategy Challenge.  The team was sponsored by the PBC.  Article
  • Scranton High School Twins awarded Presidential Scholarships.  Article
  • The PBC continues to grow, adding 15 new members since the Annual Award Dinner in October 2011.  The PBC prospective member list exists to build out our pipeline of future members.
  • On March 21 the PBC conducted a business trip to New York City with 15 students from the Kania SOM.  Prior to our return to Scranton, a Networking Reception for the students was held with 25 PBC members.  Networking Receptions provide students with the opportunity to interact with alumni to further enhance the students' "soft skills" for professional development.
  • The search for the Assistant Dean of Practical Learning in the Kania SOM is in the interview stage.  The candidate selected for this position will be a key partner for the PBC in the Kania SOM.  Tim and Michele are on the selection committee for this search.
  • The Mentoring Program will re-launch next month in the Kania SOM.  Current Juniors will be recruited to become engaged with alumni mentors until the completion of their Senior year.

Member Highlights

Patti A. Clifford ’86, was named the Chief Talent Officer at Havas and Arnold Worldwide effective January 30.  Arnold was recently named to Ad Age’s Top 10 A-List of agencies.  Spending time between Boston and New York, Patti will be implementing a new talent system at Arnold and then scale it to the larger Havas companies over time.

Jane A. Conway, Ph.D., ’79, is the Executive Vice President at Alpha Financial Markets Consulting (Alpha FMC).  Jane joined Alpha FMC in January.  Alpha FMC is a leading asset management consulting and benchmarking firm that works globally with asset managers, third party administrators and other service providers.

Ralph DiRuggiero '73, Vice President of Property Management Paramount Group, Inc., will be honored by the New York Real Estate and Construction Industries at their 25th Annual Lifeline Award Dinner Dance.  The event will be held at the Marriott Marquis in New York City on May 10, and supports Covenant House.

George F. Evans ’82 has recently accepted positions as the Managing Director for Business Development and Client Management at DAK Intelligent Search, and as the Managing Director for Business Development, Client Management and Transaction Advisory at Gladstone Associates, LLC.  George is also a Senior Advisor at TurtleBay Advisory Services.

Sean Gaffey '99, Vice President of Investments for Merrill Lynch Wealth Management, hosted 15 Kania SOM students on March 21 in his midtown Manhattan office.  At this meeting Sean discussed his personal story, his experiences and growth with Merrill Lynch, and his hope to recruit Scranton students for the summer internship program at Merrill Lynch.

Tom Grech '84, Managing Director of Sales for JJT Energy, was installed as the 27th president of the Alumni Society for 2012 and 2013.  A 20-year veteran of the printing and publishing industries, Tom has served the University as a class president, Philadelphia Alumni Club President, and a member of the Alumni Board of Governors.

Ted Jadick '61, Vice Chairman of Heidrick & Struggles, hosted 15 students on March 21 in his midtown Manhattan office.  During this meeting Ted explained how the University's network, particularly his encounter with Gerry Roche '53, led to his career at Heidrick & Struggles.  Dan Ryan, Partner-in-Charge of the New York Office, joined the meeting to express his ideas on what jobs will help students gain the most experience and exposure in the infancy of their careers.

Susan St. Ledger ’86 has accepted the position of President of Buddy Media as of March 8.  Headquartered in New York City, Buddy Media is the social enterprise software of choice for eight of the world’s top ten global advertisers.  A former Senior Vice President at Salesfoce.com, Susan will be based in San Francisco and will split her time between that location and New York City.  She will lead Buddy Media’s global revenue generation and oversee the company’s sales and client service teams.

Joseph M. Vaszily ’95, Vice President of Fixed Income Sales and Trading at Goldman, Sachs & Co., officiated his first Regional Final in this year’s NCAA Division I Women’s Basketball Tournament at Raleigh, NC.  In that game, eventual runner-up Notre Dame defeated Maryland.  Joe began officiating Division I women’s basketball during the 1999-2000 season.

University News

  • In a recent announcement The University of Scranton and The Commonwealth Medical College (TCMC) have agreed to extend, until May 18, an agreement covering discussions regarding a possible affiliation. Article
  • University students qualified to participated in the regional final of the Fourth Annual CFA (Chartered Financial Analyst) Research Challenge by the CFA Society of Philadelphia. Article
  • Experts on the Greece and European Crisis joined a panel discussion at The University of Scranton in early March. Article
  • The Kania SOM Online MBA Program was rated number one for teaching practices and student engagement. Article
  • Men's Basketball finished a great year, advancing to the Elite Eight in the NCAA tournament and finishing the season in the top 15. Article
  • Patrick F. Leahy, Ed. D., Executive Vice President of The University of Scranton, has been named the sixth president of Wilkes University. Article
