August Orientation FAQs

When is virtual August Orientation and how do I register?

The virtual August Orientation program will take place on Tuesday, August 11 from 5:00PM - 7:30PM, with a social event offered for new students from 8:00PM - 9:00PM. All students who register for the Orientation session will be emailed access information prior to the event.Students will complete the registration process for themselves and their guests through their application status page. Back to the top.

Do parents/guardians have to attend Orientation?

Parents find the information we provide at Orientation to be very helpful. It is highly encouraged that parents/guardians attend, however, it is not mandatory that they do so. Students and parents/guardians will each have a different schedule to follow and will need separate computer systems to access the information.  Back to the top.

How much does Orientation cost?

In light of the pressures facing Scranton families, the University has decided to waive the fees associated with this year's New Student Orientation program. Back to the top.

When can I move into my residence hall?

For students residing on campus in the fall, you will move onto campus at your regularly assigned move-in date. For members of the Class of 2024, you will be permitted to move in on Saturday, August 15. For upperclass transfer students, you may move-in to your assigned residence hall on Sunday, August 16, 2020. Please keep in mind the following safety protocols as outlined in our Royals Safe Together plan for moving onto the University’s campus. All students and family members participating in aspects of the move-in process will be required to follow basic safety guidelines including the following:

  • Limiting traveling parties to no more than 2 family members with whom they currently reside
  • Wearing masks of cloth face coverings at all times while on campus and in residence halls
  • Utilizing good hand hygiene through the use of personal or provided hand sanitizer
  • Distancing of at least 6 feet whenever possible

How do I register for classes?

Your respective advisor/advising center will be in contact with you via email to set up an academic advising appointment. In this meeting, you will review your fall schedule, go over your academic goals, and resolve any questions you have about academics at the University.

What if I cannot attend Orientation?

It is extremely important that you attend this program which is focused on your specific needs as a new student. In the event that you are unable to attend, please contact the Center for Student Engagement at orientation@scranton.edu or (570) 941-6233 for instructions on how to proceed. Back to the top.

Do I need to take any placement exams during Orientation?

All placement exams will be taken online prior to virtual August Orientation. Your Academic Advising Center/Dean's Office will determine which placement tests will be necessary for you to take. Back to the top.
