Presidential Search Update from Philip Judge, S.J.

Dear Members of the University Community:

As our Board Chair, Lawrence Lynch, announced in September, I am serving as Chair of the Presidential Search Committee, a broadly representative committee established to assist the Board in identifying our next president. Serving in this role is a privilege for me. My tenure on the Board has allowed me to see the great successes and pressing challenges of the University. During my tenure as President of Regis High School, I spent the last decade visiting our REACH middle school students during their on-campus weeks here each summer. There I came to appreciate the great warmth and welcome of the University staff, and almost always running into an orientation weekend, the excitement of new and veteran students and the care and competence of the faculty members introducing them to campus life. Transformational work takes place on this campus every day.

I know that the various governance bodies are wrapping up their work to identify representatives for the committee. They are also gathering feedback from their constituencies on the characteristics for the next president and the challenges to be faced in the future. I appreciate all that they are doing and am especially grateful to those members of the University community who are coming forward to serve. This is a vital, yet time-consuming, service to the University. Thank you.

In addition to the feedback being gathered by the various Senates, Anne Coyle, our search consultant from Storbeck Pimentel, will visit personally with a number of groups in the coming weeks to introduce herself and to listen to you about your hopes and aspirations for our next president. Storbeck/Pimentel will also create an online survey to allow all members of the University community, including parents, alumni, and friends, to share their thoughts.

Once all of this feedback is gathered and all members of the Search Committee are in place, we will begin our work to draft the position specification for the search, which will be used throughout the search.

We have created a website to house all of the information and announcements related the search and an email address for you to use to suggest candidates. You can access these resources as follows:

Please know that the Search Committee and I value your questions and concerns at any point in the search process. I plan to communicate with the campus community regularly. I also appreciate your feedback along the way. You can use the following Email address for the search committee and expect a reply to your questions or comments:

In the coming weeks we will welcome Anne Coyle as she visits campus to meet with different focus groups. The full Search Committee is being assembled with elected representatives from constituencies on campus. I hope that our first meeting as a full committee will happen by the end of October. You can expect regular communication from me. My next note will introduce our fully assembled Search Committee.

Please keep this important process for the University in your prayers.
