Expertise

Dr. Liu joined the Mechanical Engineering program in the Department of Physics and Engineering in Fall 2023 and has served as the Engineering Program Director since Fall 2024. He has played a key role in the continuous development of the Mechanical Engineering program and in securing external ABET accreditation for the program. His teaching expertise lies in thermo-fluid sciences and engineering, and his research focuses on the fluid mechanics of bio-inspired flows, including fish swimming, insect flight, and the flow sensing mechanisms of seal whiskers. He is also interested in the design of bio-inspired robots and flow sensors.

Hobbies

Dr. Liu enjoys swimming and is a certified swimming official with the local YMCA. He volunteers as a timer and a judge at local swim meets.
