David Black received his Ph.D from the Pennsylvania State University and his B.A. from Northern Illinois University. He teaches, or has taught, courses in philosophy of conscience, Chinese philosophy, philosophy of culture, philosophy of rhetoric, epistemology, aesthetics, ethics, and the pursuit of happiness, along with multiple tutorials in Daoism. He also teaches honors business ethics in the University’s Business Leadership Program. He has published work on the philosophy of education, Vico, Confucius, Plato, aesthetics, philosophy of rhetoric, philosophy of childhood, and philosophy of culture. His recent research attempts to use insights found in the Daodejing as a basis for developing a mnemonic theory of civility.
