University Development

To our generous supporters:

I was challenged from the very beginning of my time at The University of Scranton to understand service. I was encouraged to act in thoughtful, intentional ways, not just to help people, but to learn what service is and to understand its deeper purpose in our world. I knew immediately that this was one of the unique values of a Scranton education.

As I carried those questions with me throughout my time at Scranton, I was given once-in-a-lifetime opportunities to act on my education and to serve others. Through the Special Jesuit Liberal Arts program (SJLA), I went on a two-week pilgrimage to Uganda my sophomore year. In my junior year, I studied in South Africa for five months, and now, through the Fulbright English Teaching Assistantship, the most prestigious U.S. government fellowship for the promotion of international understanding, I will be traveling to Mongolia for a year to teach English after graduation. I am eager to continue my service abroad and to share the knowledge I have gained to make a difference in the lives of others.

Without the generosity of donors like you, I would not have been able to attend The University of Scranton. Without Scranton, I would not have been educated in a humble tradition by the greatest teachers I have ever met; I would not have made friends in SJLA that I will carry with me forever, and I would not have experienced the life-changing moments that led me to discover my destiny in philosophy and international service. My gratitude knows no bounds for the professors, students, alumni, and friends, like you, who made possible my journey at Scranton.

I ask that you please consider joining the President’s Circle this year so that others can experience the transformational growth, both personally and professionally, that I did at Scranton. You are leaders who not only provide exceptional educational opportunities for Scranton students, but by your example, you teach us the importance of leading a generous life and being men and women for and with others.

Thank you for your investment in our future.

Sincerely,
Benjamin Turcea ’15
