A Message from the President

A Message from the President

Dear Faculty, Staff, Students, Alumni, Parents & Friends:

As you may know, we planted a live Christmas tree on the Dionne Green this fall, a little earlier than usual so that our students could enjoy it before they departed for their winter break. Not only is a live tree a sustainable choice, but it is also a symbol of enduring hope on campus. As the end of the year of 2020 approaches, I think we can all use a reminder that hope prevails, God’s love lifts us up, and the community that has brought us together will be there for us, even when we’re apart.

Challenges still abound, but – it is clearer to me now more than ever – we can overcome them. I have always known Royals to see a positive path forward. This issue of the magazine features signs of hope, too, from the strategic plan for the University, which lays out important goals for our future, to the moments of joy that parents have experienced while parenting during the pandemic.

I pray that you and your families have a blessed and safe Christmas and, no matter what your circumstances, you find joy in the season and peace in the new year.

God bless you, and God bless The University of Scranton.

Rev. Scott R. Pilarz, S.J.
