Welcome to the Class of 2024

Welcome to the Class of 2024
Move-in Weekend

University President Scott R. Pilarz, S.J., welcomed the Class of 2024 and all other students back to campus with a video message that was sent to members of the University community on Wednesday, Aug. 12.

“Universities and colleges were founded on the conviction that people learn best from one another — in person. Although we can’t always guarantee that’s going to be the case in these very challenging times, we are very graced to have this time together,” said Fr. Pilarz.

During move-in, the Class of 2020 Gateway flashed with each class year’s number.

The University’s undergraduate Class of 2024 features more than 900 members hailing from 14 states as well as three different countries: China, the Cayman Islands and Nigeria. Approximately 23 percent of the incoming class is from Northeastern Pennsylvania. There are also 75 legacy children in the Class of 2024 whose parents are alums of Scranton. Among the welcome events for the incoming class were a Mass, a virtual class photo, residence hall/commuter student meetings and several other virtual/in-person events.

In addition to the undergraduate Class of 2024, the University has more than 140 incoming graduate students representing several states and foreign countries, including China and Saudi Arabia.
