Cyrus P. Olsen, III, Ph.D.

This award is given to a faculty member who has demonstrated noteworthy academic leadership in promoting and strengthening cross-disciplinary or interdepartmental teaching and learning endeavors.  Dr. Cyrus Olson is a scholar who systematically works across disciplines and departmental boundaries to enable students to confront real world challenges and experience the relatedness of knowledge. His contributions to the Honors Program are notable, as is his First-Year Seminar course on “Science and Religion”, and his several contributions to the “Education for Justice” Teach-In lectures – also interdisciplinary with faculty from other disciplines. Most recently he travelled with nursing and theology students to Uganda. His creative and innovative interdisciplinary pedagogies clearly demonstrate his ability to connect and enhance the learning experiences of students.
