 EXCELLENCE IN ADVANCING INTERDISCIPLINARY STUDY

This award is given to a faculty member who has demonstrated noteworthy academic leadership in promoting and strengthening cross-disciplinary or interdepartmental teaching and learning endeavors.  The award honors a faculty member who has developed creative/innovative interdisciplinary or integrative pedagogies as a means of connecting and enhancing the learning experiences of students.  The successful applicant will be a scholar who systematically works across disciplines and departmental boundaries to enable students to confront real world challenges and experience the relatedness of knowledge.  The recipient of this year’s award is Prof. Collen Farry.

Prof. Farry joined the faculty in 2018 as the Digital Services Librarian. Prof. Farry’s work in preserving the digital collections requires her to work closely with Department Chairpersons and Program Directors to ensure the acquisition and cataloging of student capstone projects, including honor’s and master’s theses, and doctoral dissertations.

She has worked collaboratively with students to develop digital exhibits with Honor’s projects, Slattery Fellowships, and Presidential Fellowships. She has also partnered with students and faculty to build digital exhibits such as Native History of the Wyoming Valley and European Medieval Manuscript Leaves.istory of the Wyoming Valley and European Medieval Manuscripts Leaves.

In addition, Prof. Farry served on the Institutional Black History Subcommittee and conducted research for the committee, and also set-up and maintains the digital exhibit entitled, “Blackness at The University of Scranton.”

In the words of one nominator, “I enthusiastically nominate Prof. Farry for the Interdisciplinary award, she seamlessly navigates disciplinary borders, helps to find common ground, and has been an asset to faculty, students, and staff of the University regardless of their discipline or department.”
