 EXCELLENCE IN ADVANCING INTERDISCIPLINARY STUDY

This award is given to a faculty member who has demonstrated noteworthy academic leadership in promoting and strengthening cross-disciplinary or interdepartmental teaching and learning endeavors.  The award honors a faculty member who has developed creative/innovative interdisciplinary or integrative pedagogies as a means of connecting and enhancing the learning experiences of students.  The successful applicant will be a scholar who systematically works across disciplines and departmental boundaries to enable students to confront real world challenges and experience the relatedness of knowledge.  The recipient of this year’s award is Dr. Jennifer Kaschak.

Dr. Kaschak joined the faculty in 2010 and is currently an Associate Professor in the Department of Education. Since her arrival, Jennifer has been a member of the Middle and Secondary Education Curriculum Committee, and had chaired the Secondary Education Committee since 2012 where she played an essential role in the last Pennsylvania Department of Education Major review of our Secondary Education programs. These programs consist of twelve distinct areas at the undergraduate levels and twelve distinct graduate programs. As committee chair, Jennifer collaborated with eight academic departments in the College of Arts and Sciences.

Dr. Kaschak’s expertise in curriculum and assessment is a valuable resource, not only for her students in her Interdisciplinary Assessment course, but also in her role as a member of the PCPS Curriculum committee but also as a two-term member of the Faculty Senate Curriculum Committee.

In addition, Jennifer serves as a member of the Faculty Research Committee, and has been an active organizer for events surrounding National History Day at the local and state level.
