EXCELLENCE IN INTEGRATING DIVERSITY IN LEARNING

This award recognizes a faculty member whose efforts to integrate diversity in the curriculum have enriched the student's learning experieces.  The faculty member will be able to show that in the course of her/his teaching, s/he incorporates a broad mix of perspectives reflecting the richness of our pluralistic society, including substantial readings about ethnic, racial, class, religious and feminist issues.  She or he shall also have a well-developed approach for addressing different learning styles and teaching to cognitive diversity.  The award is a special recognition of the faculty member's effors to ensure that when students leave the University, they will possess the competence, awareness, skills and insights required for successful participation in our pluralistic society.  Dr. El-Habib Zanzana is this years awardee. 

Dr. Zanzana came to our University in 1995 after his doctoral studies at Indiana University.  He is currently Associate Professor in the Department of World Languages and Cultures, teaching courses in French, Arabic, and Spanish. HIs colleagues commend  his practice of teaching as a form of schoarship, particularly as he develops literacy classrooms that meet the needs of linguistically and culturally diverse learners.  Dr. Zanzana's teaching is informed by his scholarship on language pedagogy, including his participation in national workshops on teaching of languages through Hispanic theatre, children's books, visual arts, and cinema.  Dr. Zanzana's colleagues acknowledged his commitement to his students.
