EXCELLENCE IN THE SCHOLARSHIP OF TEACHING AND LEARNING

This award is deisgned to recognize the effors of faculty who strive for excellence in teaching and who practice teaching as a form of scholarship. Dr. Christie Karpiak is this years awardee.

Dr. Karpiak came to the University in 2001 and is currently a Professor and Chair of the Psychology Department.  As a licensed clinical psychologist, Dr. Karpiak has committed herself to effective evidence-based practices, which also informs her classroom teaching and assignments.  She has incorporated problem-based learning into several courses; she has co-taught the Teaching in Psychology Seminar, which prepares undergratuate students to become teaching assistants (this pioneeringw work has appeared in several journal articles and conference presentations); and as Department Chair, she has led an evidence-based restructuring of the Psychology curriculum.
