Michael Allison, Ph.D.
EXCELLENCE IN INTEGRATING MISSION AND JUSTICE INTO THE CURRICULUM
This award honors a faculty member whose special efforts ensure that students have a keen understanding and appreciation of the realities of the world, including pressing justice issues in a local, national and global context. The award recognizes the efforts of a faculty member dedicated to the service of faith and promotion of justice, as it relates to his or her teaching. Dr. Michael Allison is this years awardee.
Dr. Allison came to the University in 2006 after receiving his Ph.D. from Florida State University and is currently Professor and Chair in the Department of Political Science. He has also worked on behalf of the Latin American Studies Program, teaching a wide range of courses including Human Rights in Latin America; September 11, 2001 and Beyond; and War and Peace in El Salvador-designed to increase students understanding of international issues. Dr. Allison has also served as a trip leader for Bridges to El Salvador and The Kino Border Initiative. He regularly works on asylum cases for people fleeing violence in El Salvador and Guatemala. In addition, Dr. Allison has been a leader in the Jesuit Universities Humanitarian Action Network and will co-host the organization's Leadership Conference on our campus this June.
