David Dzurec, Ph.D.
EXCELLENCE FOR UNIVERSITY SERVICE AND LEADERSHIP
The University Service and Leadership award recognizes the efforts of faculty who strive for excellence in service to the University, the profession and the community and who demonstrate academic leadership by effective mentoring of junior colleagues. Dr. Dzurec is this year's awardee.
Dr. Dzurec is Associate Professor and Chair of the History Department. He serves as Contract Administrator and VIce Chair of the Faculty Affairs Council, as NCAA Faculty Affairs Representative, and as a member of the advisory board for the Jesuit Center and the Ellacuria Initiative. Prior leadership roles include serving as co-chair of the Technology Advisory Group and as a member of the Faculty Senate Executive Committee. His nominator notes that, in his role as chair of the History Department, "Dr. Dzurec has effectively shaped the direction of the department toward a more global focus, has developed initiatives in digital history and community-based learning, and has implemented assessment practices, including a portfolio system for assessing student learning. He is currently working with a group of faculty on an important redesign of the International Studies major, a proposal that now includes courses from nine different departments.
