Gerianne Barber, director of the Counseling Training Center in the Counseling & Human Services Department, was chosen to receive the Jane Kopas Women’s Center 25th Anniversary Legacy Award at a celebration of the center in March. The nominations for the award noted Geri’s dedication to being a peacemaker, her development of the Promoting Awareness of the College Transition (PACT) program to educate new students on healthy relationships, consent, sexual violence, and resources available to students, and her role in creating a campus-based confidential support group for students affected by sexual and other interpersonal violence. Established in 1994, the mission of the Jane Kopas Women’s Center is to advance an environment in which women and men can live and work together in equality, understanding and mutual respect. The Center works to increase awareness of gender issues and thus promote personal growth and whole-person development among students, faculty and staff.
