Welcome!

If you have come looking for specific information, I hope you find it on our website. If you have come to learn something about the nature of the Operations and Information Management department and its activities, or have just come to visit, I hope we convey the University of Scranton's commitment to both teaching and research.

Since we are constantly expanding and improving our website, I hope you will return whenever you think we might be helpful. And if you live outside Scranton but someday have occasion to visit in person, I hope you will explore the campus, perhaps take a tour, and take full advantage of the many activities, exhibits, and events available to the public.

The Operations and Information Management (OIM) Department is composed of ten full time faculty, several adjunct faculty, and an administrative assistant.  All faculty members actively participate in scholarly research, have various teaching interests, and are involved in service to the university and the community.

The OIM Department offers two major programs of study:  Operations Management (OM) and Business Analytics (BA). As one of the core functional areas of an organization, Operations Management deals with the effective management of businesses in the manufacturing and service areas through effective and efficient utilization of resources in the production of goods and services.  Business Analytics  involves evaluating data to extract insights that help businesses make better decisions and solve problems.

The OIM Department also offers three concentrations for our MBA students -- Management Information Systems (MIS), Operations Management (OM), and Business Analytics (BA).  Graduate students who choose to complete at least three advanced elective courses in one functional area may "specialize" in that area.  MIS is for those seeking knowledge and skills in information technology management, and OM is for the student interested in managing the operations function of manufacturing as well as service organizations. With a BA concentration, MBA students learn to transform data into insights for making better business decisions.

Our academic programs admit well-qualified students and prepare them immediately to take leadership roles as operation managers and consultants, and to assume increasingly important roles related to supply chain operations and executive leadership. Our faculty has a worldwide reputation for expertise in supply management, information systems management, operations management, logistics, and supply chain performance optimization, and the faculty uses this expertise to provide our students with a competitive advantage. Our faculty will continue to conduct leading-edge research that advances the field, and we will continue to bring this research into the classroom to advance the skills of our graduates.

Our graduates have the knowledge and skills needed to improve an organization's excellence in supply chains for the global e-commerce environment, including costing, process analysis, design, relationship building, decision-making, project management, and e-commerce. We prepare graduates who understand how to develop and operate information systems and supply chains that provide improved customer service combined with added profitability and responsible corporate citizenship.

Sincerely,

Dr. Nabil Tamimi
