Future Students

Our Programs Suit a Variety of Needs

The Accounting Department of The University of Scranton strives for continuous improvement so that our program responds to the changing needs and demands of the global business world.  For example, we offer the following program options:

  • Four-Year General Accounting Program-This program provides a solid foundation in business and accounting for students interested in accounting careers in industry and government, in pursuing graduate studies (for example, in law) or in running their own businesses.  This program is appropriate for students interested in professional certifications such as Certified Management Accountant and/or Certified Internal Auditor.
  • Four-to-Five Year Combined BS/Macc Program
  • Five-Year, Combined BS/MBA Program-In most states (including Connecticut, Maryland, New Jersey, New York and, after December 31, 2011, Pennsylvania), candidates must accumulate a minimum of 150 credit hours of higher education in order to sit for the CPA examination.  In response to this 150-hour requirement, we developed our five -year program.  The typical bachelor's degree in Accounting requires completion of approximately 120-130 credit hours; thus, such programs do not, by themselves, satisfy a 150-hour requirement.  In their junior year, students who opt for, and are accepted into, our five-year program can, over a period of five academic years, earn both a bachelor's degree in Accounting (any of the tracks) and an MBA.  Our five-year program may also be of interest to students who simply wish to earn both a bachelor's degree and an MBA in an efficient manner.
