Make an Appointment at The Writing Center

If you are working on a paper, we strongly encourage you to make an appointment in advance. While we do take walk-ins, during periods of high traffic, we may not be able to accommodate students without pre-scheduled appointments. All appointments last for one hour. If you have multiple papers, we encourage you to make multiple appointments. If your draft is five or more pages, we recommend scheduling more than one appointment. Please use the resources below to learn how to schedule an appointment.

Types of Appointments

First, consider which type of appointment you would prefer. We are offering three types of appointments this semester.

Face-to-Face Sessions:

These meetings occur in-person, so you will meet the consultant at one of our two locations. If your appointment begins between 9:00AM and 4:00PM Monday through Friday, you will come to The Writing Center in LSC 582 in the OSSS hallway. If your appointment begins between 5:00PM and 8:00PM on Monday through Friday, you will go to the Reilly Learning Commons on the first floor of the library. We are in the first two study rooms on the left.

Online Sessions:

These meetings occur virtually. You will still have live interaction with a writing consultant, but you will be at two separate locations. If you choose an online appointment, you should log back into the Writing Center’s scheduling platform five minutes before your appointment, select your time slot, and click the “Start or Join Online Consultation” link shown below:

eTutoring Sessions:

These are online asynchronous appointments, meaning there is no face-to-face interaction. If your appointment is an eTutoring appointment, you can upload your paper to your appointment form and someone will get it back to you with feedback within your scheduled hour. eTutorings are a great resource to receive global feedback on content, but less ideal for building other skill-sets

The first time you login you’ll need to provide some contact information to set-up your account. Once you are in the WCOnline, you will be asked a series of questions to generate the best available appointments based on your needs. However, you can see all of the available appointments by clicking “Calendar View,” which will show the entire weekly schedule with the hours and formats that are available for each writing consultant.

The white blocks are the time slots that are available. To make an appointment, click the white block and follow the prompts on your screen. Once the appointment is booked, you will receive an email confirmation with details about your writing session.

Walk-in Appointments

We strongly recommend that you schedule an appointment, but if you forget to do so, and you need help with your paper today, there are still some options. You can check our daily walk-in hours. Every morning we update our walk-in schedule based on our tutor availability. Walk-ins are first come, first serve, so there could  be long waits at peak points of the semester. You can check our walk-in schedule each morning on the chalkboard sign outside of The Writing Center or on our Instagram page below. You must be logged in to Instagram to access the link.
