Christina Lenway

As the Reading Specialist/Gonzaga Program Director, my goal is to assist students in creating a pathway to success by improving their reading abilities and mapping out vital skills that enhance their academic capital.

The rigor of academic reading and college life can be intimidating, but it doesn’t need to be. By learning active reading strategies, students can become more successful at comprehending and retaining what they have read. This engagement with the text is critical for successful college-level reading.

I challenge students to know themselves, both their strengths and their areas in need of improvement. I encourage them to clearly define their goals and overcome the obstacles they will meet in the attainment of those objectives. By cultivating effective strategies for reading comprehension, critical thinking, questioning, time management and organization, students are better equipped to navigate the world of academia and develop the skills they will need to be successful here and in their lives.

I have earned a B.A. in Elementary/Secondary Education and English Literature from Elmira College, and a M.S. as a Reading Specialist from the College of New Rochelle. Outside of the classroom, I am a singer/songwriter, having written and produced original compositions and musings. I am humbled by the opportunity to serve the students at the University of Scranton.
