Research and Teaching Interests: Dr. Loreen Wolfer is full professor of sociology/criminal justice and has been at the University since 1996. She received her undergraduate Bachelor of Arts degree from Franklin and Marshall College (1991) and both her Master's (1993) and Ph.D (1996) from Cornell University. Dr. Wolfer is the author of the books Getting the Job Done: Research and Statistics for the Real World and Real Research: Conducting and Evaluating Research in the Social Sciences, as well as numerous research articles on Facebook norms, protection from abuse orders, and drug courts. She is also the Chief Evaluator for the University of Scranton’s Center for the Analysis and Prevention of Crime (CAPoC) where she conducts program evaluations for local agencies like the Office of Youth and Family Services and Advocacy Alliance.

Courses taught by Dr. Wolfer include Research Methods and Statistics in the Social Sciences, Marriage and Family, Family Issues and Social Policy, and Introduction to Sociology. Her research interests are largely applied and evaluative in nature. Every year her Research Methods and Statistics students learn course material by working with a local agency to deal with the real life issues of assessing client needs or evaluating a program effectiveness. Most recently her students have done evaluations for Outreach (formerly the Employment Opportunity and Training Center) and the Federal Office of Probation.

Her personal interests include reading, crafts, cooking, outdoor activities, and keeping up with her crazy family.
