My research laboratory focuses on the following:

  • Cellular and molecular strategies for understanding CNS connectivity (axon pathfinding and synaptic connectivity) related to adaptive behavior and cognition using a zebrafish model.
  • Interrelationship of developmental hypoxic injury on CNS connectivity and proclivity of drug abuse and addiction. 
  • Cognitive and behavioral flexibility influenced by long-term drug abuse and addiction (i.e., methamphetamine, cocaine, and nicotine neurotoxicity).
  • Mechanisms regulating development of synapses: ontogeny of neurotransmitter receptors and intracellular signaling cascades: endocrine and trophic factors.
