Footsteps of Ignatius Pilgrimage/Ignatian Leadership Program

"St. Ignatius, like the rest of us, learned and lived within the context of his life experience, the social and political forces of his time, and his faith.  The exact circumstances  provided for him by God were so precise that it is astounding.  This realization caused me to consider how the circumstances of my own life might lead me to fulfill my own unique purpose.   Certainly, just as God brought together the perfect combination of circumstances for St. Ignatius' mission to manifest, God's same divine providence is working in my life today at the University of Scranton."  -- Patricia Wright, Ph.D., Nursing

The Jesuit Center is pleased to offer the Footsteps of Ignatius Pilgrimage and Ignatian Leadership Program for 2020.

Pilgrims will travel through Spain visiting important sites in the life of St. Ignatius Loyola and the early Jesuits, including Loyola Castle (family home, the location of his birth, and the location of his conversion), Montserrat, and the cave in Manresa.   We will visit the birthplace of Pedro Arrupe, S.J. and St. Francis Xavier, S.J.. This year will include travel to Rome with stops to visit the Vatican, Gesu and Gregorian University.

The pilgrimage will begin with the fourth cohort of the Ignatian Leadership Program, designed to examine works by St. Ignatius and other Jesuits in preparation for the pilgrimage.   Participants who are unable to commit to one meeting per month in order to discuss the readings and prepare for the experience in Spain will not be able to take part in the pilgrimage.  For more information about the meeting dates and the tentative itinerary please go to the Footsteps of Ignatius Information page.

Both components (the Pilgrimage and Leadership Program) are designed to better animate our understanding of the mission of the University of Scranton by providing participants with the opportunity to examine important texts and share in the lived experience of traveling the very footsteps of St. Ignatius Loyola.

Space will be limited for this experience.  We apologize in advance to those who we will not be able to take with us and ask for patience in the early years of the program.  I encourage all interested individuals to review the application below and consider applying.

The pilgrimage will take place from June 14 to June 24, 2020.  All expenses related to the pilgrimage will be paid by the Jesuit Center.

Please submit your application to Ryan Sheehan (ryan.sheehan@scranton.edu) via email or hard copy to the Jesuit Center by Monday November 18th, 2019.
