The Clothesline Project 2014
Take Back the Night and Clothesline Project is April 24, 2014
Along with the rally on Thursday, April 24, the Jane Kopas Women’s Center and the Women’s Resource Center of Lackawanna County create a visually empowering display of people’s stories known as The Clothesline Project. The Clothesline Project is a renowned project utilized in aiding people in healing from the violence that they have experienced. It is a very powerful and important project.
It would be a great idea to familiar yourself with the history and colors used for the Clothesline Project! Please visit: http://www.clotheslineproject.org/
The Jane Kopas Women's Center would like to be very intentional with the way the Clothesline Project is done. The Women's Center would like to have only those who have experienced some type abuse to participate in tell their story on a shirt. In previous years the painting of shirts was open to everyone and we would like to be more intentional this year and fulfill the mission of the National Clothesline Project.
We would like to include supporters of those who have experienced some type of abuse by incorporating their hand prints on a banner that supports people who have experienced gender violence. Along with creating a banner prior to the event, there will be a banner present the day of TBTN for supports to place their hand prints on.
You have the option of creating a shirt in the JKWC from the dates below or you can contact Justine Johnson to set up a time that is most convenient and comfortable for that person to paint a shirt. The Women's Center is flexible with this because we want those who would like to paint to be relaxed and in a comfortable setting. With this flexibility, there is also the option of taking a shirt, painting it, and then returning it.
Dates for 2014 have not yet been determined. Check back in March 2014.Please note, painting a shirt for clothesline project does not count as Service Learning nor will credit be given for class; however, those who are signed up as committee members are eligible for Service Learning.
If you have any questions about the clothesline project, helping with the banner, or making a shirt, please contact Kristen Nawrocki at firstname.lastname@example.org, or Justine Johnson at email@example.com.
