Public & Media Relations Intern
Application Fall 2013-Spring 2014

 Primary Responsibilities:

  • Serve as the PR contact for the Center for Student Engagement, directly including Leadership, Orientation, while working in conjunction with Student Clubs and Organizations and USPB
  • Manage and engage on Facebook Fan Page, Twitter, Flickr, YouTube, and other social media management platforms
  • Create/maintain schedules of activity on all both CSE and USPB social media sites. Understand what metrics are available on each site and what they measure. Keep spreadsheets current and prepare “dashboard” recapping key metrics to facilitate reporting results to CSE administration
  • Review available information about campus news and events from University Press Releases, Events Calendar, web pages for University Departments (ex. Alumni Events, Performance Music Events, Weinberg Memorial Library etc.) and organizations
  • Submitting press releases to The Aquinas, Royal News, and University of Scranton Public Relations
  • Serve the Center as primary photographer and videographer for CSE programs and services
  • Work in conjunction with the PR Intern for Student Clubs & Organizations to promote events and encourage positive press
  • Develop YouTube podcasts to promote the Center and associated programs and events
  • Update CSE website and associated pages
  • Conduct internet research to determine best practices for engagement in social media
  • Review new features on social media sites we participate in and suggest ways to improve our existing pages. Also, by periodically checking how other colleges and universities are using the media, recommend best practices in higher education for potential implementation on our sites.
  • Archive weekly Aquinas and local media clippings about CSE
  • Be the liaison to all other offices/departments and promote all CSE events

Time Commitment:
Intern Training: Week of August 19th (Flexible based upon commitments such as OA, RA, etc.)
Weekly Meeting: Director, Assistant Director of the Center for Student Engagement, Interns
Weekly Office Hours: 4-5 Hours


  • Good academic standing with a minimum grade point average of 2.5. No exceptions. GPA will be checked in April/May and again in June.
  • Demonstrated commitment to student involvement and public relations
  • Ability to serve as a liaison between the Center for Student Engagement and the campus community
  • Ability to research and benchmark other best practices within PR and social media
  • Good disciplinary standing with Office of Student Conduct & University
  • Leadership potential & experience
  • Excellent interpersonal & communication skills
  • Knowledge of & commitment to the mission of The University of Scranton
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks efficiently
