Mission Statement and Learning Outcomes

Off Campus and Commuter Student Affairs Departmental Mission Statement: 

 

The Office of Off Campus and Commuter Student Affairs (OCCSA) is committed to serve as a resource and provide information, programs and leadership opportunities that enrich the off-campus living and commuter experience.  OCCSA, guided by the principles of a Jesuit education, strives promote personal growth and assist students in becoming engaged members of the University and broader community.

 

 

Students who participate in OCCSA off-campus living programs will: 

  • Cultivate practical life skills related to household management, negotiation of contracts, financial management and successful navigation of the rental search and lease process
  • Foster interpersonal, critical thinking and problem solving skills, as evidence by management of mature relationships with landlords, roommates and community members
  • Engage in self-reflection and demonstrate an awareness of interdependence in community living as exhibited by their successful integration into the local community

 

Commuter students who participate in OCCSA programs will:

  • Identify and utilize OCCSA and other appropriate campus resources to assist in academic and personal success 
  • Establish meaningful relationships with peers, faculty, and administrators through participation in co-curricular campus events and programs 

 

 

Through participation in leadership opportunities offered by OCCSA students will:

  • Develop a comprehensive set of practical skills and tools such as time and meeting management, agenda setting, group dynamics, team building and program planningDemonstrate the ability to identify areas for improvement in the off-campus and commuter student off-campus and commuter student experience and  develop and implement plans for positive change accordingly
