Once you have purchased your laptop, you will want to think about the software that you plan on using during your time at Scranton.
Anti-Virus Software for PC and Mac is Required
ALL computers (PC and Mac) connecting to University resources, including wired, residential network (ResNet), and the wireless network (ROYALAIR) are REQUIRED to be protected with a University of Scranton approved anti-virus software installed and running at all times. We highly recommend Microsoft Security Essentials (Free from www.microsoft.com/securityessentials) for PC owners, and Sophos Anti-Virus for Mac Home Edition (free).
Microsoft Office 2010 (Win) or 2011 (Mac) (Highly Recommended)
Microsoft Office is the standard application most heavily used across campus. Other applications are available on campus lab computes but can also be purchased for your laptop at educational discounts before and after arriving on campus, through www.journeyed.com/select.
Note: OpenOffice, an open source office suite, is available for download for no charge.
