Welcome to Family Weekend!  We have planned activities for you and your family on Friday, Saturday and Sunday, which will allow you to reconnect with your student and get a first hand look at their home away from home.

Wine Tasting 101

"Wine Tasting 101"- Sal Maiolatesi owner and winemaker of Maiolatesi Wine Cellars will give an in-depth discussion of wine and food paring, how wine is made, how to properly taste different wines, and of-course, sampling of six different wines from dry to sweet. Join us for some fun wine tasting and great discussion on wine and wine & food paring.  You must be 21 to participate; photo ID is required.  (Tickets required. $15 per person)  Brennan Hall, The Rose Room-509
 

Late Night at Scranton Presents: Family Weekend BINGO!
Spend quality time together and play bingo at this event sponsored by Late Night at Scranton. Come have some fun with our Family Weekend Committee callers and play for a chance to win many fabulous prizes.

Royals 5K
On Saturday, September 21st at 10:00 a.m., families are welcome to join the University community in a 5K walk/run to benefit the Scranton athletic teams. Pick the team you would like to support and join the players and coaches on a 3.1 mile journey around Scranton's Nay Aug Park. This event is not included in Family Weekend pricing.  Register here!

    We introduced you to the City of Scranton with Scranton 101 at Freshman Orientation. Now, Director of Community Relations, Julie Schumacher Cohen, will moderate a panel of Scranton "experts" who will tell you everything you need to know about the Electric City. You will leave this session having learned how the University and community partner with each other, as well as practical information on where to shop, eat and discounts available on Family Weekend.   • Science is Fun!, with Dr. MC2
    Join Dr. Michael C. Cann, Professor of Chemistry, and have fun seeing, feeling and hearing some fasinating science demonstrations.  The Loyola Science Center-133

Informational Break Out Session 2

  • Career Services-A Four Year Plan & Beyond: Empowering Students to Succeed 
  • Maureen Ciliberto, Outreach Specialist in the Office of Career Services, will present valuable tips and guidelines students may utilize throughout their academic experience to best prepare for their future success.  Learn about the many resources offered, as well as the integral role you play in the process.  The Ann and Leo Moscovitz Theater
  • Healthy Eating-Food Labels-What You Know Can Impact Your Health!
    Dr. Joan Grossman, Assistant Professor in the Department of Exercise Science and Sport will share valuable information on food labels.  Can you trust food labels?  What is hidden and how do you know if a product is "fat free", low in salt or "organic"?  Join us for an informative discussion and learn how to impact your health and make informed decisions about the foods you consume. Stop by the Dionne Green and meet student representatives from over 30 student clubs and organizations on campus, and browse the samplings from several Community vendors. Dionne Green

Lunch
Lunch is available from 10:30am -2:00pm at the University's Fresh Food Company located on the 3rd floor of The DeNaples Center (cost for adults-$8.35, children-$3.99).  At the retail food court on the first floor of The DeNaples Center, options include: Chick-Fil-A, Zoca and Starbucks and begin serving at 11am.  Join our students for a meal, and experience the wide variety of healthful options they enjoy each day.

PINK Rugby Game
Men's Rugby Annual Fundraiser for Breast Cancer Awareness. Men's Rugby will compete in Pink Match Jerseys which are auctioned off after the match. Food and memorabilia will be sold during the game. All proceeds benefit the American Cancer Society.  Awareness and informational tables and tents line the field during the afternoon.

In honor of Family Weekend, many local merchant’s are offering discounts. Here is a list of local shops and restaurants offering discounts for Family Weekend.

Lackawanna County College Battle of the Bands Courthouse Square, (Linden St., between N. Washington Ave. and Adams Ave.), Downtown Scranton

Come to this session hosted by Vice President of Campus Ministries, Rev. Rick Malloy, S.J. Using his own brand of wit, Father Rick will entertain his audience while sharing with them how the University of Scranton gets students thinking about their own spirituality and impact on the world.
