The life and legacy of University of Scranton 2009 graduate Jennifer Sidari, M.D., will be honored at a coffeehouse and art auction on Sunday, Nov. 10. The event, entitled “Across the Universe: A Tribute to Dr. Jennifer Sidari,” will serve as a fundraiser for a newly instated book scholarship in honor of Dr. Sidari at the University.

The tribute will take place from 2 to 5 p.m. at the McIlhenny Ballroom of the DeNaples Center. Art and photography will be available for silent auction while University students, alumni and local musicians perform musical selections. Tickets can be purchased at the door for a suggested donation of $5 for alumni and community members, and $3 for current University students.

A resident of West Pittston, Dr. Sidari passed away on May 29, just a few weeks after graduating from The Commonwealth Medical College in Scranton. She was about to begin her residency at Janet Weis’ Children’s Hospital near Danville.

While a student at the University, Dr. Sidari founded the photography club and served as director of a weekly, off-campus open-mic event. She graduated, summa cum laude, as a double major in biology and philosophy and member of the Special Jesuits Liberal Arts Honors Program.

Dr. Sidari was also passionate about service to others. Shortly before her passing, she visited Haiti, where she arrived with supplies of medicine and toys and donated all of her personal items to those in need before she left. For her many acts of generosity and service, Dr. Sidari earned The Commonwealth Medical College’s Global Pride Award and was nominated for the national “American Medical Associations Physicians of Tomorrow” award.

The University of Scranton Programming Board and Dr. Sidari’s friends and family are organizing the event.
