First year legacy students gathered with their alumni parents and University President Kevin P. Quinn, S.J., to celebrate the beginning of their Scranton journey during Welcome Weekend, Aug. 24-25.
The class of 2017 includes 69 legacy children of University of Scranton alumni, including 14 legacy students from alumni couples. Four of the eleven Presidential Scholars are legacy students.The students and their alumni parents joined Father Quinn for a commemorative photo at the end of the reception. This long-standing tradition will be repeated during their Commencement Weekend in 2017.
The University’s undergraduate class of 2017 was drawn from 9,072 applicants, has an average SAT score of 1,124, and includes a dozen valedictorians and salutatorians with many representing local high schools, such as North Pocono, West Scranton, Riverside, Mid Valley and Valley View. Incoming students represent more than 400 high schools, 15 states, Ireland, China and India. More than 20 percent of the class are from northeast Pennsylvania. Majors represented by the most students include biology, business administration, exercise science, nursing and occupational therapy.
