Reunion 2011 Right Around the Corner

If your class year ends with a "6" or "1," now is the time to start getting ready for Reunion Weekend, scheduled June 10-12. More than 350 alumni and friends have registered to date for this year's Reunion. (More than 1,200 alumni and guests returned to campus for Reunion 2010!) Former Inmates and College Students Unite for Original Play

Childhood reflections of former inmates will be juxtaposed with memories of college students in a new production created by the students, former prisoners and award-winning playwright Nancy Hasty. The original work “We Rise” will be performed by elementary education majors at The University of Scranton and former female inmates on Tuesday, May 3, at 7:30 p.m. in the Moskovitz Theater of the DeNaples Center.

University-hosted Chinese Opera Events Are a Hit in Community

An audience of nearly 1,800 filled the Scranton Cultural Center for a rare U.S. performance from the world-renown BangZi Opera Company, presented by The University of Scranton in April. A live orchestra accompanied 40 cast members in a free performance of “Bond,” an adaptation of William Shakespeare’s “The Merchant of Venice.”

Mahatma Gandhi’s Grandson Addresses Hundreds About Justice, Peacemaking

Rajmohan Gandhi, grandson of Mahatma Gandhi, addressed an overflowing crowd of students, faculty and community members at a lecture held recently in the McIlhenny Ballroom, DeNaples Center, as part of the University’s Education for Justice 2010-11 theme of “Peace and Reconciliation.”

Scranton Hosts Earth Day Fair

The University of Scranton showed its support for sustainability by hosting an Earth Day Fair in the John J. Long, S.J., Center on April 19. In an initiative organized by the University’s Sustainability Taskforce, more than 200 students, faculty, staff and community members visited the fair and learned about some simple life changes that can be made to lead a more sustainable lifestyle.

Jazz Ensemble Presents Concert Saturday

The University of Scranton Jazz Ensemble will present a concert on Saturday, May 7, at 7:30 p.m. in the Houlihan-McLean Center on campus. Admission is free and the performance is open to the public. Program includes arrangement of music by Wayne Shorter, Horace Silver, Harold Arlen, Thelonious Monk, Dizzy Gillespie, Clifford Brown, Jimmy Van Heusen, Wycliffe Gordon and more.
