Scranton Student Represents Pennsylvania as National Truman Scholar

A triple major who maintains a 3.98 grade point average while participating in The University of Scranton’s rigorous Special Jesuit Liberal Arts Honors Program, is one of just 60 students from 54 colleges in the nation – and the only scholar to Pennsylvania – selected as a 2011 Truman Scholar. Junior Sarah Marie Neitz of Gettysburg joins the elite group of scholars selected from a highly competitive pool of 602 candidates nominated by 264 universities in the United States.

2011 Frank O'Hara Award Winners Announced

Twelve individuals will be presented with the 2011 Frank O’Hara Award during Alumni Reunion Weekend, June 10-12, on campus. The O’Hara Award is the highest award bestowed jointly by the University and the Alumni Society for outstanding achievement in a particular field or endeavor.

The University of Scranton will present its annual Pedro Arrupe, S.J., Award for Distinguished Contributions to Ignatian Mission and Ministries to Rev. Gregory Boyle, S.J., founder and chief executive officer of Homeboy Industries, at a University assembly in the Rose Room of Brennan Hall on Thursday, April 7, at 11:30 a.m.

Starting this week, local residents, nonprofits and businesses will have new resources for information about The University of Scranton. The Office of Community Relations is launching a website offering a comprehensive source for the many events and programs the University has to offer the community, including lectures and performances, health and educational programs, marketing opportunities for local businesses and more.

The Second Annual Occupational Therapy (OT) Graduate Student Spring Fling for the Thomas Jerome House (TJH), a nonprofit organization serving troops with traumatic brain injuries, is slated for Friday, April 8, in The University of Scranton's DeNaples Center Ballroom.

Army ROTC Battalion Conducts Spring Field Exercise

On Friday, April 1, 136 Cadets from the Military Science Department loaded on buses and vans for a two-hour trip to Fort Indiantown Gap, located outside of Harrisburg, for the Royal Warrior Army ROTC Battalion's spring field training exercise.
