Remembrance of the Jesuit Martyrs Begins

As the nearly 400 in attendance filed into the Houlihan-Mclean center on Oct. 28 to hear Rev. Rodolfo Cardenal, S.J., former vice rector of the University of Central America, speak about the murder of six Jesuit priests and educators, their housekeeper and her daughter, images of the martyrs’ faces standing on easels before the stage replaced any abstractions attendees had about their self-sacrifice.

Rev. Thomas Roach Named Rector of Jesuit Community at Scranton

Rev. Thomas E. Roach, S.J., who served as Secretary for Education for the Society of Jesus in Rome, has joined the University as Rector of the Jesuit Community at Scranton. Fr. Roach succeeds Rev. George A. Aschenbrenner, S.J., who served as rector of the Scranton Jesuit Community since July of 2003.

Best-selling, Investigative Author Discusses Corporate Complicity in the Holocaust

The Weinberg Judaic Studies Institute and the Holocaust Education Resource Center of the Jewish Federation of Northeastern Pennsylvania will present an exclusive event with an award-winning author. On Nov. 19, Edwin Black will discuss "Corporate Complicity in the Holocaust - the Nazi Nexus," at 7 p.m. in the Pearn Auditorium of Brennan Hall. The lecture is open to the public, free of charge.

Obama’s Foreign Policy Discussed at Schemel Forum Luncheon

Harvey Sicherman, president of the Foreign Policy Research Institute, presented his assessment of the first ten months of the Obama administration’s foreign policy to an audience of about 60 people in the Rose Room of Brennan Hall recently as part of the Schemel Forum’s luncheon series.
