Donald R. Boomgaarden, Ph.D., Former Provost of Scranton, Appointed President of Saint Joseph's College

On March 3, Saint Joseph's College in New York announced that it selected Donald R. Boomgaarden, Ph.D., professor of music history and literature and former provost at The University of Scranton, as its president.

"On behalf of The University of Scranton community, I want to congratulate Dr. Boomgaarden on his selection as president of Saint Joseph’s College, and thank him for his dedicated service. He is a passionate advocate for Catholic higher education, and we wish him every success in this well deserved appointment," said The University of Scranton President Kevin P. Quinn, S.J.

Dr. Boomgaarden, Ph.D., wrote:

"It is with considerable sadness that I leave The University of Scranton, where I was able to make many good friends, and had the opportunity to perform as a musician, teach students as a professor of music history and literature, and participate deeply in the life of the University as its provost. It was only the opportunity to lead a wonderful institution, St. Joseph’s College of New York, which takes me from this special place. I leave with a deep sense of gratitude for the opportunity The University of Scranton, and the Jesuits themselves, have given me. May God bless The University of Scranton always."

We wish Dr. Boomgaarden luck in his new role. Read more about his appointment here.
