A ceremony marking the opening of the new Student Veterans Lounge on campus will be held Tuesday, April 29. The dedication will begin at 12:15 p.m. The lounge, located in the old Loyola Hall, provides a welcoming atmosphere to military veterans and a place for peer support, advocacy and community involvement among veterans.

A plaque, purchased by Staff Senate, will be hung in the facility in memory of Ray Burd, director of Printing and Mailing Services, who was instrumental in the creation and development of the Student Veterans Lounge. Ray served in the U.S. Air Force from 1971 through 1975, including a tour of duty in Panama.

The ceremony is being hosted by the Veterans Advocacy Committee of The University of Scranton. It will be followed by an Open House that continues until 3 p.m.

The Student Veterans Lounge entrance is located on the ground level of the old Loyola Hall across from the Chapel of the Sacred Heart on The Estate grounds.
