On Saturday, Sept. 21, four bands competed in Lackawanna County’s second annual College of Battle Bands held in partnership with area Colleges and Universities. The University’s band, Eye on Attraction, won the battle, which included a $600 cash prize and the opportunity to play at the October 4 Listen Local series at the Scranton Cultural Center at the Masonic Temple. The band includes three University of Scranton students, Joe Terry (bass/guitar), Mike Trischetta (guitar, bass), and Andrew Merkle (drums, lyrics), as well as Zack Graham (vocals).

Other bands competing included Kids in the Sandbox from Marywood University, RiSE representing Baptist Bible College and Static in the Attic of Keystone College.

Local actor Conor McGuigan was the MC for the event. Judges for the competition were local arts writers Alicia Grega of The Electric City, Kait Burrier of The Weekender and Chris Calvey of the County’s Arts and Culture Department.

The goal of the event is to foster collaboration among local universities and showcase student talent in downtown Scranton. Due to weather, the event was moved from Courthouse Square to the Electric City Trolley Museum.
