It is time to register for this year's United Way Day of Caring!
This volunteer event will take place on Wednesday, September 11, 2013. The University has been asked once again to participate and we encourage you to join our efforts. Some of the Day of Caring volunteer projects include landscaping, painting, cleaning, organizing, light maintenance, early learning projects, meal packaging/delivery, and graphic design assistance. There is also a need for direct client interaction. For example, you may assist residents of the Mountain View Care Center at their annual picnic held at McDade Park, attend and interact with children at the Hawaiian Luau for early learners or make friendly conversation at Green Ridge Health Care Center or Scranton Health Care Center. A list of the agencies participating this year will be available on the new United Way/University of Scranton “Get Connected” website. At this website, you will be asked to create a personal account designating The University of Scranton as your company, allowing you to view available assignments and register for one that interests you. Those individuals not wanting to register on the website should contact Elisa Cosner in the Office of Human Resources at (570) 941-7767 for agency information and registration.
Volunteers can devote either a full or half day to the project subject to supervisory approval. This time will be considered Mission and Community Service Leave and participants will not be charged with vacation time, provided a Mission and Community Service Leave Form is completed and returned to the Office of Human Resources by August 30, 2013. Please note that the deadline for registration is Friday, August 30th.
All participants will receive a “LIVE UNITED” t-shirt which you are encouraged to wear on the day of the event. You are asked to report to your assigned location between 9:00 and 9:30am unless stated otherwise.
Please feel free to email Elisa with any questions you may have and thank you in advance for your participation.
