First Graduation, Then Volunteering

Fourteen University of Scranton graduates volunteered for long-term service projects with nonprofit organizations and underserved populations in states throughout the country. Organizations and programs include Teach for America and the Jesuit Volunteer Corps.

Jeff Aube of Cambridge, Mass., will work with the Jesuit Volunteer Corps. Kerianna Beckman of Quakertown will teach in Massachusetts for Teach for America. Kim Esposito of Downington will work with the Mercy Volunteer Corps. Nicole Furman of Merrick, N.Y., will teach mathematics at J.F. Webb High School in Oxford, N.C., for Teach for America. Colin Holmes of Scranton will teach in Baltimore, Md., for Teach for America. Hanna Joyce of Annandale, N.J., will work with Central Arizona’s Shelter Services in Phoenix, Az., through the Jesuit Volunteer Corps. Joe Lofstedt of Monroe, N.Y., will teach in North Carolina for Teach for America. Alex Nafranowicz of Philadelphia will be an advocate for homeless Hispanic youth at Pegasus Legal Services in Albuquerque, N.M., with the Jesuit Volunteer Corps. Meghan Norsigian of Portsmouth, R.I., will work with the Asian Task Force Against Domestic Violence in Boston, Mass., through the Jesuit Volunteer Corps. Shana O’Hara of Merrick, N.Y., will work at the Stella Maris Clinic in Baltimore, Md., through the Mercy Volunteer Corps. Marissa Papula of Chelsea, N.Y., will work in Boston, Mass., with Americorps. Catherine Rotterman of Lancaster, N.Y., will work in Garrison, N.Y., with Capuchin Youth & Family Ministries. Mara Smith of Westmont, N.J., will work as an eviction defender at Eviction Defense Collaborative in San Francisco, Calif., through the Jesuit Volunteer Corps. Chelsea Valentine of Tamaqua will work in Portland, Maine, with the Jesuit Volunteer Corps.
