The Center for Student Engagement at The University of Scranton celebrated the graduation of 58 students from the 2012 fall cohort of the Scranton Emerging Leader program on Dec. 2. Scranton Emerging Leaders (SEL) I is a semester-long program offered in both fall and spring semesters for students of any year who are eager to develop and enhance their leadership skills. The course is led by two staff facilitators and two student facilitators that have previously completed the course and additional training. SEL is comprised of eight weekly sessions that cover such topics as the social change model of leadership, leadership style and assessment, communication skills, interpersonal skills, assertiveness, motivating self, and others. This course is a great opportunity for students to learn more about themselves and also create new friendships with others. Since these 58 students successfully completed SEL I, they have the opportunity to serve as a student facilitator in upcoming semesters of SEL I.
