University of Scranton Players to Present ‘Mr. Burns, A Post-Electric Play’

Apr 27, 2017

The University of Scranton Players will present Anne Washburn’s dark comedy “Mr. Burns, A Post-Electric Play,” directed by José Zayas, Friday through Sunday, April 28, 29 and 30. Performances begin at 8 p.m. on Friday and Saturday and at 2 p.m. on Sunday in the Joseph M. McDade Center for Literary and Performing Arts on the University’s campus.

The play looks into the future after the collapse of civilization. The power is out, and we are \ left to fend for ourselves. In this new world what will survive? Twinkies? Cockroaches? What if it was only the “Cape Feare” episode of The Simpsons? The play opens a window into a world where the pop culture of one era evolves into the mythology for a new era.

The production features: Ali Basalyga of Scranton as Colleen; Nicolas Gangone of Howard Beach, New York, as Sam; Megan Lasky of Scranton as Maria; Christie Civil of Sharon Hill, as Quincy; Caitlin Gilby of Hackettstown, New Jersey, as Edna; Victoria Kusy of Scranton as Jenny; and Reilly Charles of Rockaway Park, New York, as the Voice in Act 3.

Tickets for “Mr. Burns” may be purchased at the box office one hour before each performance. General admission tickets are $10. Tickets are $7 for students, children, senior citizens and University of Scranton faculty and staff. Reservation can be made online at thescrantonplayers.com or by phone at 570-941-4318.
