The University of Scranton Welcomes Class of 2020

The 1,018 members of The University of Scranton’s undergraduate Class of 2020 will be among the more than 1,350 students who will be welcomed to campus this weekend. In addition to one of its largest undergraduate classes, Scranton will welcome more than 300 graduate students and more than 50 transfer students, who will also begin their studies at the University for the fall semester, which begins Monday, Aug. 22.

The University’s undergraduate Class of 2020 was selected from the largest applicant pool in the University’s history – 10,114 applicants. The class has an average SAT score of 1,130. Incoming students represent a total of 458 high schools, 12 states and seven foreign countries, including China, Ireland, Japan and Vietnam. Approximately 21 percent of the class is from Northeast Pennsylvania. The most common majors chosen by members of the incoming class are accounting, biology, nursing and occupational therapy.

The Class of 2020 also includes 111 legacy children whose parents or grandparents are University of Scranton alumni.

This weekend’s Fall Welcome will include a New Student Convocation, a class photo, residence hall and commuter meetings and an alumni legacy reception. Members of the incoming class will also help area children and their families prepare for the upcoming school year by volunteering at the Back to School Bonanza on Sunday, Aug. 21, from 2 to 4 p.m. on Lackawanna Courthouse Square.

In addition to the undergraduate Class of 2020, the University’s incoming graduate students, online and on-campus, represent several states and foreign countries, including China, Ghana, France, India, Ireland, Nigeria, Pakistan and Saudi Arabia.
