University Announces Faculty Rank and Tenure Promotions

The University of Scranton granted promotions or tenure to 15 faculty members effective at the start of the 2016-2017 academic year.

Three faculty members have been promoted to professor: Stacey Muir, Ph.D., mathematics; Declan Mulhall, Ph.D., physics/electrical engineering; and Krzysztof Plotka, Ph.D., mathematics.

Michael Jenkins, Ph.D., sociology/criminal justice, was named associate professor.

The following five faculty members have been granted tenure and named associate professor: Teresa Conte, Ph.D., nursing; Jennifer Kaschak, Ph.D., education; David Salerno, Ph.D., accounting; Marc Seid, Ph.D., biology; and Kenneth Zula, Ph.D., health administration/human resources.

Tenure has been granted to the following six faculty members: Patrick Clark, Ph.D., associate professor of theology/religious studies; Joan Grossman, Ph.D., assistant professor of exercise science and sport; Andrew LaZella, Ph.D., associate professor of philosophy; Michelle McHugh, associate professor, library; Matthew Meyer, Ph.D., associate professor of philosophy; and Daniel Sweeney, S.J., Ph.D., assistant professor of political science.

Stacey Muir, Ph.D., mathematics

Dr. Muir received her bachelor’s degree from Rockhurst College and her master’s degree and doctorate from the University of Kentucky. She has worked for the University since 2004. (photo above)

Declan Mulhall, Ph.D., physics/electrical engineering

Dr. Mulhall received his bachelor’s degree from Trinity College in Dublin, Ireland, and his master’s degree and doctorate from Michigan State University. He has worked for the University since 2004. (photo above)

Krzysztof Plotka, Ph.D., mathematics

Dr. Plotka received his master’s degree from the University of Gdansk in Poland and doctorate from West Virginia University. He has worked for the University since 2001. (photo above)

Dr. Kaschak received her bachelor’s degree from Illinois Wesleyan University, her master’s degree from the University of Wisconsin and her doctorate from Columbia University. She has worked for the University since 2010.

David Salerno, Ph.D., accounting

Dr. Salerno received his bachelor’s degree and MBA from The University of Scranton and his doctorate from Kent State University. He has worked for the University since 2007. (photo above)

Dr. Seid received his bachelor’s and master’s degrees from Brigham Young University and his doctorate from Boston University. He joined Scranton’s faculty in 2010. (photo above)

Kenneth Zula, Ph.D., health administration/human resources

Dr. Zula received his bachelor’s and master’s degrees from Misericordia University and his doctorate from Pennsylvania State University. He has worked for the University since 2011. (photo above)

Dr. Meyer received his bachelor’s degree from the University of St. Thomas, his master’s degree from Harvard University and his doctorate from Boston University. He joined the University faculty in 2010. (photo above)

Daniel Sweeney, S.J., Ph.D., assistant professor of political science

Father Sweeney received his bachelor’s degree from the Georgetown University, his master’s degree from Fordham University and his master of divinity and licentiate in sacred theology from The Jesuit School of Theology at Berkeley.
