The University of Scranton Celebrates Shakespeare’s 400th Anniversary

The University of Scranton celebrated the 400th anniversary of William Shakespeare’s death by presenting “Shakespeare Lives! A Festival.” The festival, held during the spring semester on campus, included presentations by scholars, teachers and performers. The festival was presented by the English and Theatre and Education departments and the Office of Community and Government Relations at The University of Scranton and the Lackawanna Arts and Culture Department, in collaboration with the Schemel Forum. From left: Rebecca Steinberger, Ph.D., a University of Scranton alumna and professor of English at Misericordia University, who presented “‘Not of an age, but for all time’: The People’s Shakespeare in the 21st Century;” Megan Lloyd, Ph.D., professor of English at King’s College, who presented “Will Power: 1616-2016;” Cary Mazer, Ph.D., associate professor of English and theater arts at the University of Pennsylvania, who presented “Double Shakespeares, or, Do Actors Play Characters or People?;” and Michael Friedman, Ph.D., professor of English and Theatre at The University of Scranton, who presented “Performing Shakespeare’s Language.”
