Spring Henry George Lecture Set for April 18

The author of “Henry George and the Crisis of Inequality” will present The University of Scranton’s spring Henry George Lecture Monday, April 18, at 4 p.m. in the Moskovitz Theater of the DeNaples Center. Edward T. O’Donnell, Ph.D., associate professor of history at the College of the Holy Cross, will present “Henry George and the Crisis on Inequality in the First Gilded Age,” at the lecture, which is free of charge and open to the public. A book signing will immediately follow the talk.

Dr. O’Donnell is the author of “1001 Things Everyone Should Know About Irish American History” and “Ship Ablaze: The Tragedy of the Steamboat General Slocum,” and coauthor of “Visions of America: A History of the United States.”

Dr. O’Donnell earned his bachelor’s degree from the College of the Holy Cross and his master’s degree and Ph.D. from Columbia University.

The Henry George Lecture Series, the preeminent public lecture series on economics in Northeastern Pennsylvania, is presented by the Economics and Finance Department at the University and the campus chapter of Omicron Delta Epsilon, an international honor society for economics. The series honors the 19th century American economist and social reformer. Financial support for the Henry George program is provided by a grant from the Robert Schalkenbach Foundation.
