University Professor Elected President of Pennsylvania Economic Association

Deborah Gougeon, Ph.D., associate professor of business statistics in the Kania School of Management at The University of Scranton, was recently elected president of the Pennsylvania Economics Association, a professional association of economists and allied social scientists.

Deborah Gougeon, Ph.D., associate professor of business statistics in the Operations and Information Management Department of the Kania School of Management at The University of Scranton, was recently elected president of the Pennsylvania Economics Association.

Dr. Gougeon has taught business statistics at the University since 1979. Her research has been published in many scholarly articles, and in the Proceedings of multiple national and international conferences including the American Statistical Association Conference, the Annual Conference of the Mathematical Association of America, the International Conference on Teaching Statistics, the International Conference on Business and Technology, the Northeastern Association of Business, Economics and Technology, and the International Conference on Business and Public Policy. She has published more than fifty reviews of scholarly books in Choice, the official publication of the American Library Association. She has also reviewed multiple scholarly journals and academic publishers.

Dr. Gougeon is the founder and moderator of Omega Beta Sigma, the Kania School’s Women’s Business Honor Society. She received The University of Scranton’s O’Hara Award for outstanding achievement in her field in 1993.

Dr. Gougeon received her bachelor’s and master’s degrees from The University of Scranton and her Ph.D. from Walden University. She resides in Moscow, Pennsylvania.

The Pennsylvania Economics Association (PEA) is a professional association of economists and social scientists. Its annual meeting attracts not only economists from Pennsylvania and its surrounding states, but economists from nations across the globe, including Japan, Austria, Canada, Germany, Belgium, Mexico, India, France and Taiwan. Notable economists from business, government, academia and the Federal Reserve System have participated as keynote speakers at the organization’s Annual Conference. The association’s official publication is The Pennsylvania Economic Review.
